Holiday Almond Twist

Serve this delicious Almond Twist warm for breakfast or fancy it for your next get-together.


  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed
  • 3 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 6 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 3 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Almond Paste:

  • 3/4 cup roasted almonds ( I used Chocolate Covered Roasted Almonds)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup orange jam ( or any other fruit jam would work!)


  1. Preheat oven to 400º F.
  2. Combine sugar, yeast, and warmed milk in a large bowl. Let the mixture sit for 5-8 minutes.
  3. Add egg yolks, warmed water, flour, melted butter and salt to the yeast mixture.
  4. Stir until well combined.
  5. Take dough out and knead it for a good 5 minutes until smooth
  6. Place dough to a lightly greased bowl, cover it and let it sit for at least 1 hour until the dough size has doubled.
  7. Ground almond and mix ground almond in a bowl with sugar, melted butter, and orange zest.
  8. Place dough to a floured surface. Roll dough into a rectangle shape.
  9. Brush the almond paste over the dough.
  10. Spread jam on top and roll up the dough lengthways.
  11. Cut the roll in half lengthways. Twist the halves and create a ring shape. Place your ring on a baking sheet, brush it with egg yolks and sprinkle with almonds.
  12. Bake it for 25-30 minutes or until brown.
