Hi friends! It’s officially Christmas decorating season! I’ve invited 17 super talented bloggers to join me in decking the halls, DIY-style! From now until Christmas, we’ll be sharing our inspiring and creative holiday decorating ideas with you! Check out this stellar lineup. You guys are in for a real treat.
This year, I decided to keep it simple for my Christmas mantel:
Do you remember some of this stuff from last year’s Home Depot Holiday Style Challenge? Everything except for the scrap wood houses, that is.
Once again, I dug through my scrap wood pile (I don’t think it’s getting any smaller) and made a little village out of some leftover 2×4 pieces. Here’s a more detailed tutorial I posted last year on how to make these scrap wood houses. In a nutshell, just set the miter saw to a 45º angle, cut twice, then a quick sanding and a Sharpie marker later… voila! Super simple.
The natural wood and greenery tone down the glitz factor of the mixed metallics. It’s all about balance. And of course, we have a stocking for our beloved 100 lb. Rhodesian Ridgeback, Watson. You can read about his story here.
And here’s a fun animated gif to show you how it all came together:

Oh your mantel looks fantastic. The little houses remind me of something you could find at the Christmas markets in Germany. And thanks so much for linking to my series. Happy Holidays!

Oh how I love the Christkindlemarkts in Germany! We lived there for 4 years and they were some of the best years of my life. Would love to go back someday. Thanks sweet friend!

I love your mantel! I really like your scrap wood village. I have so many scrap wood pieces, paints, and crafts sometimes I feel like I could create all year long and not have to buy anything new. But, I always buy more!
