This pretty Almond Twist is easy to make, flaky and delicious!
It’s Aniko from Place of My Taste, and I am back today with a simple dessert recipe that you can quickly whip up for an upcoming family gathering or Holiday party. Holidays are upon us, and that means lots of baking in my house. Whether I host or I am invited to a get-together, I usually offer something homemade. And almost every time it turns out to be a yummy dessert. Who doesn’t love sweets, right?
This pretty Almond Twist is soft and tasty with a delicate almond flavor. It’s filled with almond paste which can be easily made and sweetened to your taste buds.
The recipe may sound more complicated at first but don’t let that trick you! Give it a go! The pastry consistency is fantastic if you wait long enough to let the dough rise to double size. That’s key for this recipe.
Here is the Almond Twist recipe!

- 2 egg yolks
- 6 tablespoons butter, melted
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 3 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

Almond Paste:
- 3/4 cup roasted almonds ( I used Chocolate Covered Roasted Almonds)
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 6 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 tablespoon orange zest
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3/4 cup orange jam ( or any other fruit jam would work!)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400º F.
- Combine sugar, yeast, and warmed milk in a large bowl. Let the mixture sit for 5-8 minutes.
- Add egg yolks, warmed water, flour, melted butter and salt to the yeast mixture.
- Stir until well combined.
- Take dough out and knead it for a good 5 minutes until smooth
- Place dough to a lightly greased bowl, cover it and let it sit for at least 1 hour until the dough size has doubled.
- Ground almond and mix ground almond in a bowl with sugar, melted butter, and orange zest.
- Place dough to a floured surface. Roll dough into a rectangle shape.
- Brush the almond paste over the dough.
- Spread jam on top and roll up the dough lengthways.
- Cut the roll in half lengthways. Twist the halves and create a ring shape. Place your ring on a baking sheet, brush it with egg yolks and sprinkle with almonds.
