You guys. I just bought a brand new iMac and the size and power of this thing is blowing.my.mind. My Sketchup furniture drawings are preeeeetty much life-sized. Of course, my new computer has me thinking of redesigning my whole workspace… or lack of one, really. I usually work solely on my Macbook Pro so my workspace was anywhere in the house: on the couch, at the breakfast table, in bed with my DIY folding lap desk… I really love being mobile, but I’m really loving the power, storage, speed, and size of my new iMac.
Okay, so this is sounding like an Apple commercial (which it’s not… although it could be… Apple, have your people call my people and let’s talk), but the truth is, we’ve been an Apple family for as long as I can remember. My dad is and always has been a major computer geek (he owns a software engineering company for pete’s sake) so growing up, we always had several computers around the house. I remember playing educational games on our Apple IIGS. Do you remember those? Yikes, I may be dating myself. We still have the Apple IIc, IIe, and IIGS up in the attic somewhere. I bet they still work too.
Anyway… moving on.
So my new computer has been set up on our dining table, which is a very precarious situation because my children (God love ’em) love to play where they’re not supposed to. As in, they simply must hang around my brand new, very expensive electronic piece of heaven. I can just envision the whole darn thing crashing to the floor because someone tripped over the power cord.
So I’ve cleared out a spot in our bedroom to put my new workspace and I designed and built a desk to fit (which I am very excited about – I can’t wait to share the plans with you later on this month). And I figure since I’m building my desk, I can afford to splurge a little on a pretty desk chair. There’s logic in that, right?

Here are a few stylish ones that caught my eye:
I’ve always, always, always wanted a Chinese chippendale-style chair and Ballard Designs’ Macau Chair is one I’ve had my eye on FOR.EV.ARRR. But I keep hearing about how folks can find them for less than twenty bucks at yard sales or thrift stores, so I’m holding out for a great deal. It would probably help that I actually visit thrift stores and yard sales.
*Mental note: go thrifting.
When I first spotted this copper metal chair in the CB2 catalog, it stopped me in my tracks. Probably not very comfortable, but still… oh so stylish and I’m a sucker for copper.
Ahhh… leather. You just can’t go wrong with leather, amiright? The one on the left is from Pottery Barn and the one on the right is from West Elm.
Behold the infamous wishbone chair – such an interesting and innovative design. The natural, curved wood, the woven seat… I just love it all. The one on the right is from West Elm and the other is a Hans Wegner replica I found on Amazon.
These modern mid-century style chairs look pretty comfy. The one on the left is the more expensive option, from West Elm, while the affordable look-alike on the right is from Target (happy place!).
If you’re looking for a desk chair that will bring a more industrial, modern edge, the Tolix chair is always a winner. The hip, metal-fabric-leather one on the right is from RH Teen.
The Ghost chair and the Louis chair will bring a bit of formality to a space, while still remaining modern and chic.
How about a more comfortable, upholstered chair? The nailhead trim desk chair is from Overstock and the other is from Crate & Barrel.
White leather – so chic. This modern desk chair is from Overstock. I’ve always loved this Eames-style chair and it’s pretty darn affordable, found on Amazon.
These two have interesting arm rests, no? I can just see this one on the set of Mad Men. And this one looks like another take on the wishbone chair, but with a boho/macrame-esque twist.
I’ve got nothing but heart eyes for these rustic, curved X-back chairs – this one is from Wayfair. And finally, I get weak in the knees over a navy and gold combo.
So what do you think? Do you have a favorite?
It’s pretty obvious I have more than a few and I can’t wait to decide on a pretty desk chair for my soon-to-be office!

My desk chair is a Cesca knockoff (caned seat & back with the bendy chrome body) that I found at a thrift store for $15 – it is soooo comfortable. I thought it would be a placeholder but the caning is so comfy because of the give and it’s really… airy in the summer (I do have to keep a blanket on the seat in winter). But that Safavieh teak/white chair is on crazy good sale so…. maybe…

Yes! I love the Cesca chair too – I just love caned seats!

I got that exact same Modern desk chair in white from Overstock 2 weeks ago. It is awesome! I love the clean lines and is so comfortable. I have a white Ikea desk and white crate bookshelf and it works really well with it – provides enough interest but doesnt take away from all my colorful books and accessories…
