We’ve been traveling quite a bit this year and we’re fortunate enough to have amazing neighbors who will house sit for us while we’re away. Adam made copies of our house keys to give to our neighbors, but then realized we had no keychains to put the spare keys on! I used the new Dremel Stylo+ Versatile Craft Tool to whip up a few of these cute DIY personalized leather keychains in a matter of minutes.
Supplies:
- Dremel Stylo+, Versatile Craft Tool
- Leather remnant, cut into strips
- Leather punch
- Rivets
- Key rings
- Scissors
- Mallet
Step 1
Use sharp scissors to cut the leather into strips. You can cut decorative ‘tails’ on the ends if you’d like.
Step 2
Use a leather punch and a mallet and punch a couple of holes into the strip for the rivets.
Step 3
Place the keyring as shown, fold the leather strip over, insert the rivet into the holes, then use a mallet to set the rivet.
The Dremel Stylo+ is great for small craft projects – it can etch glass, burnish leather, carve wood, do some detail sanding and polishing, and more. The slim size gives you maximum control in precision etching, engraving, polishing, and sanding applications and the comfortable grip and lightweight design allows for extended work sessions.
There are several different tips that come with the Dremel Stylo+. I used the sharp pointy tip to engrave the words onto the leather. Feel free to experiment with the bits to find out which will work best for you and your application. The tool comes with an instruction booklet that tells you which bit works best for which medium.
Step 4
Insert the bit, tighten the collet with the included wrench, plug the Dremel Stylo+ in, turn it on (you can adjust the speed from 1 to 5), and engrave words or names to personalize your DIY leather keychain.
Aren’t they cute? Such a quick and easy DIY project!
