You guys you guys you guys YOU GUYS!!! I can no longer contain my excitement!!! A few months back, I shared on my Instagram account that I was working on something super exciting (but super secret!) with one of my favorite brand partners, Simpson Strong-Tie. They invited me to California to help them build an outdoor pavilion and film the sizzle reel for a brand new product line they’re launching. It was a jam-packed, fun-filled 2 days of building and filming. The entire experience was one of the highlights of my year last year, and I’m even MORE excited about Strong-Tie’s beautiful new product line!
Introducing the Avant Collection
I am THRILLED to introduce the new Avant Collection by Simpson Strong-Tie!!! It’s part of Strong-Tie’s Outdoor Accents decorative hardware line and the sleek, modern design not only looks amazing, but it makes building a pavilion (or pergola, gazebo, arbor, etc.) super easy! Outdoor Accents hardware has a beautiful, black powder-coated finish that is both beautiful and structural – they’re rated for strength, safety, and performance. The hex head washer and structural screw combo looks like a bolted connection, but installation is as easy as driving a screw. These steel connectors truly make it easy to build stunning outdoor structures. Gone are the days of trying to hide connectors – the straight lines, chamfered corners, and black powder-coated finish complement just about every design.
Watch the video below to get a closer look at the new Avant Collection!
Where To Buy
Outdoor Accents is now available in select home stores nationwide as well as online. Check out this link to see the entire Outdoor Accents line!

Looks great! What kind of wood/stain is that? Are there plans for this specific build?
David Rios says
Was this pavilion you built a kit with all material like the beams? It looks like everything was pre-cut and all the pieces fir together perfectly. What type of wood was used and was it stained. Or is it composite material? What was the cost of the material and where can I purchase it?
Jen says
Hi David,
No, this was not a kit. We did pre-cut all of the pieces prior to construction in order to be efficient while filming the video. It is real wood (redwood, I believe). Costs will vary depending on location, availability of materials, size and scope of project, etc.

I would like to know where I can buy the plans for this pavilion?
Thank you,
Sue Ann

Hi Sue Ann,
You can download free plans from the Simpson Strong-Tie site! 🙂

Beautiful! Could you please tell me the foot print of the corner posts? Also, it looks fairly tall – how long are the posts? I am working up plans for a very similar pool pavilion project and love the results and proportions of this project! Thanks so much!!
Miguel Martinez-Reyes says
Hello, on the plans for the front header beam the directions say to cut a 4×10 to 133″ but thats seems a little to long. Would the right measurement be 109″? Please specify if possible.
Thank you

So is this pavilion waterproof? If not can i put asphalt shingles

Jen,
How can I get the Pavilion plan you did for Simpson Strong Ties? I would like to do a version of it in Doug Fir for a 16 by 16 foot project.
Thinking 8 by 8 posts; 4 by 12 beams; 4 by 6 rafters about 2 feet 4 inches on center with 2 by 6 T & G Doug Fir roof and shingles. Does this sound like it would be structurally sound? What size ridge beam would you use?
Thank you,
Brian
Jen says
Hi Brian,
You’re in luck because Simpson Strong-Tie just launched a new pergola planning software that figures all that stuff out for you! https://strongtie.com/pergolaplanner Hope that helps!

I need a design tool for pavilions not pergola’s.
